The city of Richmond, Virginia is mourning the tragic death of 18-year-old Zion Terry, who was killed in a domestic-related shooting that also left two other victims injured in the early hours of April 21, 2026.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:50 a.m. to a residence in the 3100 block of 5th Avenue after reports of gunfire inside the home. When police arrived, they found Terry suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the residence, officers also located two additional victims—a 38-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl—both of whom were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet released updates on their conditions.
Investigators identified the suspect as 41-year-old Levy Nelson of Richmond. Following a coordinated multi-agency search, Nelson was taken into custody in Henrico County later in the day. Officials have confirmed that the incident is being treated as domestic-related, though the full circumstances remain under active investigation.
The shooting took place in a residential area in Richmond’s Northside neighborhood, where families were beginning their morning routines when the violence unfolded. Neighbors reported a heavy police presence as officers secured the scene and began collecting evidence.
